Now, they got all sorts of teams playin’. Royal Roma, Roma Capannelle… sound like a bunch of fancy names to me. I bet they ain’t never had to slop no hogs or milk no cows, these fellas. They got their “squads,” they call ’em, which I reckon is just a fancy word for a team. And these squads, they all play each other, tryin’ to win, I guess. Just like them kids at the county fair, only with less pie-eatin’ and more bat-swingin’.

- They got scores, so you know who’s winnin’ and who’s losin’.
- And they got somethin’ called fixtures, which I ain’t quite figured out yet, but it sounds important.
They also got this here thing called a “toss.” Seems like they flip a coin or somethin’ before the game. Happens ’round 12:15 PM, they say, which is right ’round lunchtime, if you ask me. Probably flip a coin to see who gets the first slice of pie, I reckon. But no, they use it to decide who bats first or somethin’. Like I said, these city folk do things different.
And if you wanna know what’s happenin’ in these games, you gotta find the “live score.” That’s like the radio tellin’ ya the baseball scores back in the day, only now they got it on them fancy telephones and computers. They got websites and all, tellin’ ya everything you wanna know ’bout these games. ECN Cricket, they call it. Got scores, fixtures, schedules… the whole shebang. Even got somethin’ called Telegram, like a letter that goes real fast, I guess. They put all the info there too. Must be important if they’re shoutin’ about it.
This here Rome T10 2023, it seems like a big deal to some folks. They go on and on about the teams and the scores, and who’s gonna win. Me, I’m more interested in whether the corn’s gonna grow tall this year and if the chickens are layin’ enough eggs. But hey, to each their own, I always say.
